I pay. I have the control.

Quite human nowdays, right? You buy something which means you own and control it. This common understanding leads us to a problem, when it comes to creating a design system. You question why?

Money has it's own problems.

Money and budget always comes with ownership, governance, committees and control of outputs. For a successful Design Systems it is important that it is not controlled by “Buy-in power”.

Create a collective impact

As any great product, Design Systems should focus on users needs. A Design System also serves each part of an corporation with all its products and not just specific ones. It fulfills value propositions to multiple roles and teams. So it is imporatant, that not one role, person or department got power to overrule. Creating a collaborative cross-functional movement is in my opinion a key factor for a successful implementation as well as sustainability for a Design System.
